Local Soroptimist clubs in the Golden West Region have club meetings at different times of the day to accommodate the busy schedules of our working women.  Yes, we do have male members as well. You must be invited to join a club. We have three types of membership:  Regular, Embarking and Retired/Unemployed:

Regular Member:  Working in a profession or business or in an occupation of comparable status or responsibilities to those of a person working in a profession or business.  (Here is a chance to "give back" to your community in a meaningful way.)

Retired/Unemployed: Recently retired from or temporarily or permanently out of work from a profession or business or an occupation of comparable status or responsibilities to those of a person working in a profession or business.  (Here is and opportunity for you to use all those skills you have learned in your profession to better your community.)

Embarking: Embarking on a career in a profession or business or occupation of comparable status or responsibilities to those of a person working in a profession or business.  (Just think of the successful and educated women that will be available in a club as mentors for your exciting new career.)

Each club decides in which Soroptimist projects and Soroptimist Award Programs its members wish to participate.  Many clubs participate in projects in partnerships with other local community service organizations and institutions.

Projects, Fund-Raising Events and Soroptimist Award Programs are selected by a vote of the club membership.  Although the clubs have a warm and relaxed atmosphere, Robert Rules of Order are observed in voting procedures and club and Region business meetings.  Clubs present "Program Meetings" throughout the month.  These generally are meetings in which a local speakers inform the club members of what is happening in their communities.  Clubs also schedule social activities throughout the year.

Club attendance requirements for membership are determined by each club.  (Usually there are none.) Club, region and S.I.A. and S.I. dues generally are assessed annually and meal and/or meeting fees are payable on a monthly basis.  These fees are usually nominal as this is a service organization.

Your privacy as a members is valued:  Roster information is shared only throughout the Soroptimist organization and is not to be used for business or charity promotion by its members.  Personal information, names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of members is guarded by password sections of this web site.  (Members Only)

Please feel free to e-mail a request here for information about a club in your area.  Your inquiry will be handled by the Golden West Region Region District Director that serves your area.  She will pass your inquiry to a specific club president for further information.

We hope you will consider membership in this exciting organization.  It will be an opportunity to become Aware, to Advocate and to take Action on behalf of women and girls everywhere.

A word about our United Nations Connection:

Soroptimist International a respected NGO (Non-governmental Organization) has consultative status with the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which oversees UN activities and policies promoting human rights. More than 1,000 NGOs hold this status, including Soroptimist International. This enables Soroptimist International representatives to request the addition of an item on ECOSOC’s agenda, submit written statements for circulation to all members of the council, make oral statements at ECOSOC meetings, and contribute to other UN gatherings and seminars. It is in this forum that Soroptimist International representatives can advocate for the Soroptimist mission, advancing the status of women and girls.

Soroptimist International representatives are appointed volunteers working in one of the four UN centers in New York City, Paris, Vienna and Geneva. For further information on any UN program, please contact the program department program@soroptimist.org at headquarters or call
