The Golden West Region Honors
Making a Difference for Women
2005 Winner
Mary Peterson

Mary Peterson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998 from the University of Arizona.  She went to work for the State of Arizona Governor's Office in their Division of Drug Policy.  There she facilitated development of community-based coalitions and programs, drafting grant applications and administering grants.  Many dreamed of a house in which homeless pregnant women could find shelter.

Her dream became a reality when in May of 2000 Maggie's Place opened.

Maggie's Place continues to flourish and grow due to Mary's perseverance and the support of many people.  to date, 105 women have found shelter, education, counseling and compassion dispensed by the volunteer staff at Maggie's Place.  Now Mary continues to push for more housing for the women in need in the Phoenix area.  Mary is truly "Making a Difference for Women.

The Golden West Region was pleased to award Mary $1,000 for her project.
