The saying goes "share seamlessly, steal shamelessly" and that's what I am going to do!  Kris Chorbi, Governor-Elect from the Founder Region provided a very insightful "thought for the day" at the recent Governor's Roundtable.  I want to paraphrase her powerful message:

"The girls and women we mentor don't often see their own self-worth.  They may have been neglected, overlooked and under-valued their whole lives.  They may not have had many role models in their lives who encourage and inspire them to dream big and to have hope.

We know that by helping a woman who has overcome obstacles, we are having a positive impact on her future, on her family, and on her community.

THAT IS THE MISSION OF SOROPTIMIST!
We are empowered women, empowering women.  Whether you know it or not, we are inspiring.  To me, I am just an average women, no smarter or wiser than anybody else.  But to someone else; I am that Soroptimist lady who talks to young girls about all of the possibilities for their career; who encourages young women to apply for scholarships because they have a famiy or had struggles in their life; or who is always raising awareness about the issues women face like poverty, personal safety, and exploitation.  You never know who may be inspired by your words and actions.   Soroptimists mentor and inspire women and girls every day to see the hope that is inside of them, so they can dream a brighter future."

You all inspire me to be a better person.  Keep up the great work in your communities!

Soroptimists Celebrating Success Award Program
The deadline to submit an entry to your region chair is September 30 for your club activities from July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019.

This annual best practice awards recognize successful club projects that improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment and promote Soroptimist as an organization with that mission.  Categories encompass the four pillars supporting the SIA Strategic Plan: program, membership, fundraising and public awareness.

Regions will select region-level recipients. The first place recipient in each of the pillars will compete for the international federation-level awards. Region recipients will be recognized at region conferences. Federation recipients will be recognized at a federation meeting.
