As our organization prepares to celebrate our 100th year in 2021, we are actively changing for the future to be what our members say they want us to be - an organization with more members, greater capacity to serve more women and girls who face obstacles, and more recognition for our impact.  Our region held a Leadership Training Retreat last month, for which nearly 100 current and future leaders attended.  We had a lot of fun while working on our club and region level strategic plans, learning to take selfies (and us-ies), sharing ideas and resources, and bonding with each other. 
 
 I challenged the members to be BOLD and AUDACIOUS when setting goals for your clubs.  Orison Swett Marden wrote: “All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible”.  To grow and improve, you must set goals that  seem impossible or out of reach.  A goal that is reachable without effort just leaves you in the same position that you are currently in – with no growth or improvement in your current state.  One way to keep momentum going is to constantly have greater goals.
 
Our hope is that your club leaders came away from the retreat with the tools and ideas to attract more members, increase your club awards and giving (impact) and gain greater recognition in your communities for the work that you do.  All of the resources and presentations are available to any club member on the GWR website.  Click HERE for a quick link.  The SIA website is also RICH with resources, but sometimes can be confusing to navigate.  To help you out - click on this link for a SIA Website Navigation Cheat Sheet.

At the June 2019 SIA board meeting, the board of directors refined our organization's mission and tag line statements.

Definitions:

  • Vision Statement: serves to describe what the world would look like after the mission has been accomplished
  • Mission Statement: describes the organization, what it does, for whom, and to what end
  • Tag Line:  is a short phrase that describes what an organization does in an inspirational way
Our refined vision statement, mission statement and tag lines are:
  • Vision Statement: Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams (unchanged)
  • Mission Statement: Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment
  • Tag Line: Investing in Dreams

Soroptimist Celebrating Success Awards

The deadline to submit an entry to your region chair is September 30 for your club activities from July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019.


This annual best practice awards recognize successful club projects that improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment and promote Soroptimist as an organization with that mission.  Categories encompass the four pillars supporting the SIA Strategic Plan: program, membership, fundraising and public awareness.  Want some ideas for your club?  Check out the SCS 2019 Winners


Regions will select region-level recipients. The first place recipient in each of the pillars will compete for the international federation-level awards. Region recipients will be recognized at region conferences. Federation recipients will be recognized at a federation meeting.

• Project submitted must be ongoing or completed prior to July 1, 2019
• Clubs may submit an entry for a project entered last year if it is ongoing and has not received prior recognition
• Club presidents must authorize submission of entries
• Shared projects among clubs are welcome
• Describe only one project per entry
